At Empowered Psychiatric Solutions, we believe mental health care should be accessible, collaborative, and human-centered. Below are answers to some of the most common questions about our services, approach, and philosophy.
General Practice Questions
What’s your prescribing philosophy?
We see medication as one tool—never the only one. Our goal is to understand why symptoms are happening before deciding what to prescribe. Every treatment plan starts with a thorough evaluation of biological, psychological, and environmental factors. We prioritize the lowest effective dose, avoid overmedication, and use shared decision-making so you stay in control of your care. Medications are paired with education, lifestyle strategies, and therapy whenever possible to support whole-person healing.
What does a first session look like?
Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation lasting about 60–75 minutes. We’ll discuss your current concerns, past mental health history, medical background, and goals for care. This time is about getting to know you—not just your symptoms. By the end of the session, we’ll review initial impressions, possible next steps, and whether medication, therapy, or other supports may be helpful. You’ll always leave with a clear understanding of your plan and options moving forward.
Do you offer in-person and telehealth appointments?
We currently offer virtual appointments for clients located in Wisconsin. Virtual sessions are available through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform for your convenience and privacy.
Where are you located and who do you serve?
We’re based in Wisconsin and provide psychiatric care to children, adolescents, and adults. We also partner with therapists, healthcare organizations, and businesses through consulting and educational services.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We are in-network with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Carelon, and Quest Behavioral Health. For out-of-network clients, we can provide superbills for reimbursement upon request.
How do I schedule or cancel an appointment?
Appointments can be scheduled through our secure online portal or by contacting us directly. We ask that cancellations or reschedules be made at least 24 hours in advance to allow time for other clients.
Psychiatric Care
What’s the difference between therapy and psychiatry?
Therapists focus primarily on talk/skills-based interventions to process emotions and build coping strategies. Psychiatry combines therapy-informed approaches with the option to use medication as one tool among many for symptom relief and improved functioning. We often collaborate with therapists to ensure cohesive care.
How do you decide which medications are right for me?
Medication decisions are always collaborative. We discuss your symptoms, history, preferences, and goals to determine whether medication could be helpful. You’ll be involved in every step of the process.
Do you prescribe controlled substances like stimulants or benzodiazepines?
We prescribe these medications only when clinically appropriate and when benefits outweigh risks. Our approach is rooted in safety, evidence-based guidelines, and shared decision-making.
Can you coordinate with my therapist or primary care provider?
Absolutely. We value collaboration and regularly communicate with your care team—with your consent—to ensure treatment remains integrated and effective.
For Therapists & Referrers
How does your collaboration process work?
Our goal is to make your work easier, not harder. With client consent, we maintain open communication about treatment plans, medication updates, and progress so care remains aligned.
What’s your communication style for shared clients?
We prioritize professional, timely, and transparent communication. We welcome therapist feedback, clinical observations, and shared insights to improve outcomes.
How soon can new clients typically be seen?
Most clients can be seen within 1 week, depending on scheduling and clinical fit. We strive to minimize wait times and maintain flexibility for urgent needs.
Do you provide medication consultations or second opinions?
Yes. We often work with therapists or families seeking psychiatric consultation for medication evaluation, treatment planning, or complex cases.
Consulting & Speaking
Do you offer workshops or organizational consulting?
Yes. We provide consulting and training for healthcare organizations, schools, and businesses focused on mental health, workplace well-being, and suicide prevention.
Can we request custom training on workplace suicide prevention or health worker well-being?
Absolutely. We specialize in evidence-based frameworks like Zero Suicide, National Workplace Suicide Prevention & Postvention Best Practices, CDC/NIOSH Impact Wellbeing, Stanford Model, OSHA, Surgeon General's Framework for Workplace Mental Health and Well-Being, IHI Framework for Improving Joy in Work, and can tailor workshops to your organization’s needs.
